Polarized Sun Glasses!
And Why You Need Polarized Sun Glasses

The technical definition: The vertically oriented polarizers in polarized sun glasses block the horizontally polarized light while reflected light from surfaces such as smooth water snow or a flat road is generally horizontally polarized.

The effect: A drastic reduction in sometimes dangerous and annoying glare.

Polarized Sun GlassesPolarized Sun GlassesPolarized sun glasses can offer benefits and advantages when worn for most sports activities. Polarized sun glasses used for skiing might not offer the same benefits. The market currently offers many options for the buyer of polarized sun glasses. Liquid crystal displays (LCDs) may cause polarized sun glasses to react adversely by making the LCD’s invisible when viewed at a certain angle. Such LCD displays can be found on bank ATM machines, dashboards of some cars and some cell phones.

What Are The Advantages Of Polarized Sun Glasses?

Polarized sun glasses are considered to be performance sun glasses, which means that the do something. They are ideal for skiers, sports, drivers and anyone spending time on the water.

Polarized sun glasses have three primary advantages:

  • They reduce light transmission by only allowing light to transmit through select angles.
  • They reduce UV light and reflected glare off surfaces such as snow, water and pavement by blocking light at certain angles.
  • They increase contrast sensitivity allowing more distinction between under water objects and during sport activities.

We can achieve polarization by allowing 100% of desired light through the lens while shutting out 100% of undesirable light. By making an analogy to Venetian blinds we can describe the principle of polarized sun glasses. The blind allows light to be transmitted through select angles while blocking light at certain angles. For enhanced clarity and reduced back glare, some polarized sun glasses have an Anti-Reflective coating on either the front or back of the lens.

Two types of polarized sun glasses are available. Progressives are preferred by p eople who have difficulty reading print and seeing objects that are near. Photo chromic preferred by people who are light sensitive and who frequently changes from indoor light to outdoor lighting (and vice versa).

With a doubt, whether your time is spent fishing, boating, water skiing, mountain biking, driving at night or playing golf, polarized sun glasses should be your choice for sun wear.
